This is pure and poignant music in the traditions of Robert Johnson and Woody Guthrie, sometimes accompanied by the sounds of frogs as on the lovely track 5 Blooming flower. On Song for Kelowna Archer sings "ain't no use in cryin' where'd it ever get you before" but it makes this tough old bag cry no matter how often I listen.

Caught Archer playing a couple of tracks live on Inside Sleeve on Radio National and chatting with Paul Gough. I was bowled over by his authentic, gritty 'black' blues sound and his capacity to zero in on all those favorite themes... love, loss, desolation ... you always know when you are listening to a real artist.
